The University Library came into existence with the establishment of the Goa University in June, 1985. In fact, the start was made by annexing the Library of the Centre of Post Graduate Instruction and Research, University of Bombay to the Goa University Library, whereby collection of 35,626 books and periodicals formed the basis of the present Library.

     This section of the University is actually the Central point of educational research as it caters to the needs of various post graduate students, the research scholars and faculty members. To this effect, it is being replenished with newer and latest edition year after year. To-day, the total collection has reached to 87,000 volumes of books, covering a number of disciplines under humanities, science, social science & languages covering wide range of subjects. In addition this Library has special collections of about 25,000 books and other material in various languages from different donors which is useful source of information to cater to special requirements of research scholars not only from Goa but also from all corners of the world. Most prestigious and important collection among these are Dr.P.S.S. Pissurlencar Collection and Nuno Gonsalves Collection.

     Library has separate journal section which subscribes to more than 400 journals which includes journal received as gratis. It acts as a main source of reference boosting research activities by subscribing various indexing and abstracting periodicals.

     Besides Library consists of thesis and several dissertation submitted by the students of Goa University.

     Library holding are available on the Library database giving full bibliographical details of each document.
